The web site hosting that we provide for your site is on a dedicated server provided by ShadowCat Systems and hosted in the iDAQ data center.

DOMAIN NAMES

Please remember it is your responsibility to ensure any domain names you use are renewed when they become due.  Through the Line do not necessarily receive domain name renewal notifications, and do not actively monitor renewal dates.  Please let us know if your domain name is going to be due for renewal, and we will help to ensure it gets done.  We use www.123-reg.co.uk or www.idaq.com for all domain name registrations.

SITE BACKUPS

We do not, as a matter of course, backup your web site, or the data on it (whether these are web pages or databases).  We can quote separately for this.  Prices start at £5 per month for a weekly backup. You can backup your own site through the control panel provided (please contact us if you need more information).

HOSTING OPTIONS

If you wish, you can upgrade your standard hosting option with these options;

(1) Mirrored backup site

 

We can "mirror" your current web site (make a copy of it) to a 3rd party server.  In the event of hardware, network or other failure on the existing site, we can arrange for your web and e-mail traffic to be diverted to the backup server, while the main site is repaired or recovered.  There is a period of downtime while the necessary changes and re-pointing take place, and you may need to reconfigure your e-mail systems to continue working, but this is likely to be a quicker solution to simply waiting for a fix, especially if the fault is a major one. Prices start at £20+VAT per month per site, depending on the services running on the live site, the services required on the mirrored site, and the frequency of the mirroring (quarterly mirroring is standard).

 

(2) A dedicated server running only your site and e-mail

 

If your web site and e-mail are "business critical", you should consider hosting your site on it's own dedicated server.  This can include a specific "uptime guarantee" organised with the provider, and also a response time for dealing with any issues that may arise.  Prices start at around £50+VAT per month.  You will still need to ensure your site is regularly backed up, and any downtime is recoverable (for example, through a mirrored server solution as above).
